title = "What Is This Place"
+++
"this place" is my own little corner of the net.
a comfy, cozy home to which i can anchor amidst the turbulence of the www.
that's the hope.
my hope is for this place to be a home of sorts. so, welcome to my home.
don't expect any stilted professionalism here, but i hope you will find care, sincerity
and the closest approximation to authenticity of which this medium is capable.
complementary to the blog, i operate some adjacent public spaces:
besides the blog, you can find me here:
- [@colin@fed.uninsane.org](https://fed.uninsane.org/colin): my Pleroma account for micro-blogging/socializing.
- [@colin:uninsane.org](https://matrix.to/#/@colin:uninsane.org): my Matrix account for instant messaging (a web client lives [here](https://web.matrix.uninsane.org)).
- (my name)@uninsane.org: self-hosted email. add me to your client's address book and check your spam folder for replies: not all hosts recognize my server as reputable yet.
- <https://git.uninsane.org>: a gitea instance for code hosting/collaborating/sharing (the repo for this site itself lives [here](https://git.uninsane.org/colin/uninsane)).
registrations for Pleroma/Matrix/git are open. they're manually approved, but so long as we've had any positive interaction in the past i'm likely to let you in.
if you have comments or questions about anything you read here -- or if you're just generally curious
and want to know me better -- use one of the above. i'm a huge believer in the social web
(AKA "small web", "indie web", etc)
and if you're the type to be reading "about" pages on a blog like this we're likely to get along :-)
if you're looking for accounts on the above, i'm happy to host you: just click through and look for the 'register' button.
### Yes, but I Want to Know About _You_
i have a name: Colin. when last names are in play i respond favorably
to "Colin Sane", possibly because i find the wordplay more amusing than any sane person should.
if you haven't figured it out yet, my name's Colin.
if you want to _know_ me, the best way is to _interact_ with me.
send me a message on one of the above services.
read one of the pieces i present here and write me some short (or long) reply.
i'll read whatever you send my way and i'll appreciate you for having taken the time to communicate
whatever it is that compels you.
seriously: if you're the type of person to be reading "about" pages on a blog like this,
in all likelihood you're exactly the sort of person i get along with.
as for a bio: i'm a guy living out his 20's in Seattle.
i'm a guy living out his 20's in Seattle.
i grew up in the suburbs and moved to the city for uni, but it takes only a 30 mile radius to enclose every home i've had.
i've always loved to tinker, particularly with machines. in some ways DIY defines my life.

seems like a reasonable goal. it seems like a fulfilling direction
in which to push things.

### License/Use
i am not a lawyer, and i don't want to be. by nature of your reading the pages on this site, my computer has freely shared these bits with yours. at this point, it's foolish to think i could do anything to restrict your actions with them, and even more foolish to believe that i have any sort of "right" to do so.
however, if you somehow believe IP laws are legitimate, then:
- i claim whatever minimal copyright is necessary for my own use of this site and its contents to continue unencumbered.
- i license all original content of this site to you according to that same condition and the additional condition that your use of these works does not force me into any additional interactions with legal systems which i would not have made were these works not made available to you (e.g. your license to these works is conditional upon your not filing any lawsuits/patent claims/etc against me).
